SCIENTIFIC THEME: AGARICOMYCETE MEDICINAL FUNGI GROWN IN ARMENIA
The scientific theme “Taxonomic and ecological analysis of mycobiota of agaricomycete fungi of Armenia with the aim of assessment of their biotechnological potential and preservation of their genetic resources” presented by the scientific group head by the Professor of the Chair of Biomedicine of YSU Institute of Pharmacy , Doctor of Biology Susanna Badalyan, was guaranteed for financing by the RA MES Science Committee.
According to the specialists, current scientific interest in agaricomycete fungi has increased.
Professor Susanna Badalyan states that the interest is caused by the ferments, bio-active components of fungi origin widely used in the pharmaceutical, food and cosmetic products.
According to the head of the project, the medicinal values of the agaricomycetal fungi spread in the territory of Armenia are to be studied within the framework of the project to estimate their biotechnological potential and to preserve their genetic resources.
As a result of the project implementation the specialists expect to have a full classification of the medicinal fungi spread in Armenia, to found the database for biological resources of medicinal fungi and a genetic bank, to estimate the significance of the medicinal fungi in Armenia and so on.
The team of Professor Susanna Badalyan involves the candidate of biological sciences, senior researched narine Gharibyan, junior researcher Tatevik Shahbazyan and Masters program student Ani Gasparyan.
