YSU RECTOR ASKS THE BOARD OF TRUSTEES TO OBJECT TO THE DRAFT ON MAKING BASIC FINANCING OF SCIENCE COMPETITIVE
Presenting the decreased financing of scientific and research programs and science in general and the low salaries in particular, YSU Rector noted that such a situation can cause problems with young specialists attraction to the university.
“In relation to scientific research I want to draw the attention of the Board of Trustees of YSU to the situation as follows.
We know that recently the Government confirmed or is going to confirm the proposal of the Ministry of Finances on making the basic financing in foundations competitive.
I want to state that in case such a proposal comes into force YSU will lose AMD 50 million monthly, and at least half of the approximately 400 employees involved in our basic financing will become unemployed, as it is hardly possible to imagine that YSU will be able to win other opponents in the sphere of basic financing.
It can have a negative impact on the development of our science.
I want to ask all of you to do everything not to make this draft into law otherwise the foundation universities will be put at risk.
It is well-known that scientific researchers get very low salaries and in this case many of them can be deprived even of it.
For example, the laboratory led by Hamlet Avetisyan which has basic financing will have to be closed in spite of the fact that its leader has a state prize and is a President’s Prize awardee.
I urge you, Mister Muradyan, dear members of the Board of Trustees, to help the higher education institutions including YSU which were tuned into foundations”, emphasized the Rector.
