POSSIBILITY OF DOUBLE DIPLOMA AND BASIS FOR LONG-TERM COOPERATION: MEMORANDUM OF UNDERSTANDING BETWEEN YSU AND NTU

The event was held in the Session Hall of YSU Academic Council.

Within the scope of the memorandum the universities will cooperate in working out joint syllabi and installation of methods, exchange programs for students and teaching staff, will organize scientific and research programs, seminars and conferences.

During today’s meeting YSU Rector Aram Simonyan noted that the cooperation initiated between the two universities has great perspectives if both parties work actively and consistently. “The cooperation is going to be developed in a few directions: joint educational, scientific and consulting activities, exchange and training programs for students and teaching staff, as well as development programs in other spheres of mutual interest”.

“Nottingham Law School, which has become our partner, is among the best ones in Europe. This cooperation can also become a bridge for the universities of Iran and the Middle East”, said YSU Rector. The Dean of the Faculty of Law of YSU Gagik Ghazinyan stated that the memorandum is a legal basis for working out further programs in other directions.

“We and our partners have to work hard indeed”. Introducing the partner university, the Dean mentioned that Nottingham Trent University is one of the largest universities of Great Britain. It was founded in 1843. “The University has about 26.000 students. It is considered to be among the best 15 universities of Great Britain according to the students satisfaction survey (“The Complete University Guide 2019”). Nottingham Trent University was recognized the best university of Britain in 2018 according “The Times” rating and “Sunday Times Good University”.

The directions outlined in the Memorandum give wide possibilities to take a step forward on our development way”.

Gagik Ghazinyan told us that the bilateral collaboration took its roots from the time when Nottingham Trent University applied for a grant to carry out an educational program at the RA School of Advocates. “Due to the graduate of our university and Trent University Tirayr Vardazaryan our collaboration was started and within the frames of the grant we became partners. During this collaboration we decided to strengthen the ties and to develop educational and scientific programs without mediators”.

Speaking about outlining the road map Mr. Ghazinyan informed us that the implementation of the determined steps will make it possible for the Faculty of Law of YSU to become one of the best scientific and education centres not only in Armenia but in the whole region. “We will have a specialization in “Comparative law” which is the English law the necessity of which we actually realize knowing that the main international disputes in commerce and finances are settled at the London Court of International Arbitration”.

The Dean of Nottingham Trent University Law School Janine Griffiths-Baker expressed gratitude for warm welcome and mentioned that it was the first time she had visited Armenia. “This memorandum is actually the beginning of the huge work we are going to develop in the future: joint educational and scientific programs, studies and research. I hope we will host many of you in our university”.

The International Manager and Principal Lecturer at Nottingham Law School Vasileios Adamidis in his speech noted that this cooperation is one of the strategic steps of Trent University which supposes global ties. “Every year we admit more than five thousand international students, many of which study at Law School. I also hope that today’s cooperation will develop in future”.

The Professor of Trent University Law School Jane Ching informed that their syllabi involve anticorruption and human rights spheres which have recently been at the focus and developed in Armenia. “I’d like to communicate with my colleagues from YSU, I believe we have a lot of issues for consulting”.
 
After signing and exchanging the Memorandum of Understanding, the delegation of Nottingham Trent University visited the Centre for European Studies where the director of the centre Arthur Ghazinyan presented their activity and the syllabus to the guests. Then the guests visited the Faculty of Law to discuss further activities.
