PROTEST AGAINST GOVERNMENT DECISION: BASIC FINANCING HAS BEEN RECOVERED
Today a number of science workers of YSU walked in a procession from the central building of YSU to the RA Government building demanding to withdraw the decision on changing the form of state basic financing.
As it is already known, on December 27, 2018 the RA Government made a decision N 1515-N “On the activities ensuring the state budget performance of the Republic of Armenia of 2019”, according to which the state basic financing of the scientific and scientific-technical activity was determined as grants and it was decided to disburse it in the procedure of competition.
The scientific staff of YSU have expressed their position as regards the consequences of the decision made stating that it will have a negative impact on science in general. YSU Academic Council expressed its opinion and the Vice-Rector for Scientific Policy and International Cooperation Gegham Gevorgyan met with journalists and gave explanations.
Today the procession with “For the sake of science”, “Don’t let science to stop” slogans and banners reached the RA Government building to pass their application-proposal to the authorities and to get a reply.
The junior researcher of the Centre of Semiconductor Devices and Nanotechnology Hayk Zakaryan read out the application-proposal of the science workers in which they demanded to withdraw the decision N 1515-N, to organize public discussion of the mechanisms of science financing, particularly basic financing, improvement and reformation and before making any decision related to science to arrange public discussions with this community.
The representatives of the scientific community signed the document and passed it to the competent authority.
During today’s meeting of the Government the decision was made to make changes in the decision N1515-N and to disburse the basic and targeted program financing provided for 2019 to the organizations having the status of foundation or CJSC.
