TALYSH MUSIC AT CHAIR OF IRANIAN STUDIES OF YSU

Lecturers of the Chair of Iraninan Studies, students, researchers Elham Golizadeh and Yaser Kyaramzadeh were present at the lecture. The latter is the author of the book titled “Talysh folklore”. Greeting those present, the head of the Chair of Iranian Studies Vardan Voskanyan noted that this event is a good opportunity for students to familiarize themselves to Talysh culture.

Armin Faridi expressed gratitude for hospitality and the possibility to present Talysh music. He also outlined the antiquity of Talysh music and its being handed down from generation to generation. One of the features of Talysh ethnographic music is that the songs mainly describe the countryside routine and the main occupation of villagers-cattle breeding. Tanbur and pipe were mainly used.

Faridi stated that pipe is the instrument expressing Talysh soul like Duduk expresses Armenian spirit. He also added that Armenians had a serious significance in Talysh music development. At the end of the lecture Faridi performed some pieces from Talysh and Iranian music.
