MEMBERSHIP IN “GLOBAL CAMPUS OF HUMAN RIGHTS” ORGANIZATION: PERSPECTIVES OF YSU EUROPEANIZATION
The YSU Centre for European Studies has been implementing “Human Rights and Democratization in Eastern Partnership” program since 2010, which in 2013 was renamed “Human Rights and Democratization in the Caucasus”.
On February 22, 2019 the Centre applied to “Global Campus of Human Rights” research/educational organization for getting its membership. YSU Rector Aram Simonyan signed a petition which was presented to “Global Campus of Human Rights” organization by the representatives of “Human Rights and Democratization in the Caucasus” program Arthur Ghazinyan (program leader) and Vladimir Martirosyan (program academic coordinator).
In September, 2019 the YSU Centre for European Studies will get a full membership of “ Global Campus of Human Rights”.
The GCHR organization was founded in 2013 by the European Union to unify 7 educational programs currently implemented in the world and more than 100 universities worldwide. These seven programs are “Human Rights and Democratization in Africa”, “Human Rights and Democratization in Latin America and Caribbean Islands”, “Human Rights and Democratization in Europe- in two different programs, “Human Right and Democratization in Asia”, “Human Rights and Democratization in Arabic Countries” and YSU program-“Human Rights and Democratization in the Caucasus”. In the implementation of the latter program the Centre for European Studies cooperates with Kiev national University after Taras Shevchenko, with Belarus State University and Tbilisi State University.
This cooperation is an important part of YSU internationalization process. The coordinator of university partnership of “Human Rights and Democratization in Caucasus” Christine Gevorgyan stressed that each of these programs is special and has its aims and targets of studies. “Though each of the program observes the problems and challenges of the concrete region, they can unite around one common goal that is to promote democratization development”, said Christine Gevorgyan.
As a full member of the GCHR organization the “Human Rights and Democratization in the Caucasus” program will be able to participate in a number of programs: lecturers exchange, organization of short trainings, online educational platforms, six-month internship of alumni in the region or Europe which is financed by the “Global Campus f Human Rights” organization.
