REQUIREMENT OF STAFF, STRUCTURAL, FUNCTIONAL AND PROCEDURE CHANGES: EXPANDED MEETING OF RECTORATE TO BE HELD
The expanded meeting of the Rectorate was held today in the Session Hall of YSU Academic Council. During the meeting the Rector referred to a number of issues.
Frist of all Aram Simonyan informed those present that the book-album representing YSU history is already ready. The Rector informed that it was published only in Armenian as the material is not of particular interest for foreigners. “We are going to give them to the chairs and one example to each dean”.
YSU Rector referred to the meeting of the Board of Trustees, noting that it showed that YSU team is not united. “Many members of the team started actions which are inacceptable for colleagues and university staff.” Aram Simonyan thanked the students-members and 4 lecturers-members of the Board at the same time expressing anxiety with the fact that many of the members didn’t express their opinions.
“I understand that the team which governed the university during all these years is not homogenous, and this fact give a rise to anxiety. I’d like to emphasize the fact that there are people who want to take advantage of the situation in a way which brings honour neither to them nor to the university in general”, said Aram Simonyan.
YSU Rector stressed that there are many problems in the university which have subjective and objective reasons. “The problems are caused by the mistakes made by all of us, are the result of objectively created situation, however I want to stress that the financial stability of the university is due to our teamwork as well”.
Turning to the members of the Rectorate YSU Rector offered to discuss the occurred situation in all subdivisions, to estimate the events that took place. “It the administration of the university deserves critics- do it, point out the mistakes and present concrete proposals how to improve the activity of the university. The changes will show that onmatter who governs the university it has its potential, will and possibility to improve its scientific and educational activity”.
Aram Simonyan demanded decisive and practical proposals for staff, structural, functional and procedure changes. YSU Rector reminded that during the meeting of the Board of Trustees, the board member David Gyurjinyan called the university a swamp and it is surprising that his remark didn’t arise annoyance. “I urge you to express your opinions-both positive and negative”.
Aram Simonyan also called not to show rude attitude to any student. “I want let such attitudes in university community. Rudeness must be left out of the university. Students are not our servants, but citizens getting services for their fees. Some employees of YSU show improper attitudes and it must be stopped”.
“Soon we will hold deans’ elections. I hope, the analysis of reforms or further activities of the faculties will be presented during the elections so as the staffs can give their vote for the current or new deans”, mentioned Aram Simonyan.
Touching upon the events dedicated to the 100th anniversary of YSU, the Rector stated that the working group went on working “The jubilee committee will be formed soon, we will summarize the work done and outline the further activities”.
