YSU RECTOR DISCUSSES UNIVERSITY PROBLEMS AND MECHANISMS OF THEIR SOLUTION WITH STUDENTS
YSU Rector Aram Simonyan hosted the members of Student Council in his office.
The Rector claimed that the university needs staff and structural changes. He outlined that there is somewhat a crisis related to the university human resources. The intellectual elite which was formed in the university is disoriented: people lost their aims, their courage with which YSU used to outstand.
Turning to the students YSU Rector said that he wanted to start the reforms in teamwork with them. “During these years I and my colleagues had defects and omissions, we neglected some problems mainly because of lack of time, financial means and mechanisms, however I want to start right now, as long as I am here to make students’ and tutors’ voice to be heard, I want to go deep into your concerns, so that we could understand the problems together and find mechanisms for their solution”.
Mr. Simonyan outlined the problems, among which he particularly stressed corruption cases. He assured that YSU had never had a corruption chain, there were only separate cases. Another problem outlined by the Rector is the rude attitude of teaching staff to students which is to be consistently eliminated.
The Chairman of YSU Student Council David Apoyan pointed out to another problem existing in the university-the old age of some lecturers who cannot be engaged in the teaching process anymore.
As a solution he suggested giving such lecturers the possibility to develop only scientific activity. David Apoyan also outlined the problem of lack of special shelves in the library where students can leave their bags and clothes. On the one hand, students are not allowed to enter the library with their bags, on the other hand, the employees of the library don’t take the responsibility for the students’ items left in the closet. The Rector assured that the problem is already under consideration and it is to be settled as soon as possible.
A number of other problems were raised by the students who were present at the meeting. The Rector assured that no problem will be left out of the attention of the university administration, however some of them are beyond its powers.
The students came up with a number of proposals, and the Rector promised to take them into consideration.
