SCIENTIFIC THEME: IDEOLOGICAL AND POLITICAL GROUNDS OF “NATION-ARMY” CONCEPT TO BE STUDIED
The scientific theme entitled “The ideological and political grounds of “Nation-Army” concept” worked out by the scientific group led by the head of the Chair of History and Theory of Political Science of the Faculty of International Relations of YSU Ashot Yengoyan was guaranteed for financing by the RA MES Science Committee.
Ashot Yengoyan informed that the analysis of the ideological and political grounds of “Nation-Army” concept is one of the most important problems of modern Armenian political science. He noted that in spite of being at the focus of political and public processes since its beginning there is actually lack of deep research in professional literature.
According to him, the analysis of the ideological and political grounds of the concept will make it possible to consider it in the context of the Armenian national ideology which can serve a basis for the spiritual unity between the army and society and instilling this system of values in social mentality.
“Our team made research into the experience of France, Switzerland and Israel, studied their important historical events, and understood the main ideas that served to that concept. We came to the conclusion that only the motto was used as an example without basing on the historical experience, which is the most important”, said the head of the chair.
“We suggest making the concept contain three unities, not “Nation-Army”, but “Nation-State-Army”. They must be interrelated, the state must take the responsibility. Besides, the love for homeland must be based on serious material and technical, social and economic, social and everyday life basis”.
In Mr. Yengoyan’s opinion, serving in the army must be voluntary. The state must take the responsibility and only then instill devotion for homeland. “Otherwise, this concept becomes another yoke to mane the people kneel. If all conditions are provided people will understand the necessity of “Nation-Army” concept”.
We also offer to change the propagation strategy. For example, currently the image of a fedayee hero is propagated, and we think it’s not correct as the role of the army as a state structure is decreased this way”, said Ashot Yengoyan.
Postgraduates of the Faculty of International Relations Khosrovandukht Azatyan and Arnak Sargsyan are involved in the group studying the scientific theme.
At the end of the studies the results will be published in the form of a brochure.
