NEWLY-PLANTED TREES AS SYMBOLS OF 100-YEAR-OLD UNIVERSITY: TREE PLANTING ACTION IN ARTSAKH
The tree-day visit of the university community to Artsakh started today. The first day was marked with the foundation of the park of 100th anniversary of YSU in Berdzor town of Kashatagh district.
This tree planting action has a long history. Every year it is dedicated to a significant and historical event. And it is no coincidence that this year it is dedicated to the Centennial of YSU foundation.
YSU Rector Aram Simonyan, the head of Kashatagh district administration, representatives of YSU teaching staff, students were present at the foundation of Berdzor park.
YSU Rector Aram Simonyan noted that in this corner of homeland the universitarians planted more than 9600 trees. They initiate tree planting action in Berdzor twice a year.
“This is a beautiful tradition started by Gurgen Melikyan. We are proud to see these trees planted with our own hands decorating this road and making the area more beautiful. Planting a tree is a great happiness. I want everyone to plant a tree today and bless this land, this water and to get attached to this splendid spot of our homeland”, said Aram Simonyan.
In accordance with the good tradition, the tree planting action was blessed with the lines from Levon-Zaven Syurmelyan’s poem by the Professor of the Chair of Iranian Studies of YSU Faulty of Oriental Studies Gurgen Melikyan. “It’s an honour to decorate the native land; nomads never decorate, they cut trees. Some people live in our homeland like nomads, but you decorate the Armenian land which is eternal”, said Professor Melikyan.
The representatives of YSU also visited the park dedicated to the Centennial of the Armenian Genocide and planted new trees in that park too.
It should be noted that this traditional tree planting action is supported by “Gurgen Melikyan” foundation in the person of Gurgen Melikyan.
