WE MUST HAVE MULTI-FUNCTIONAL SYSTEM OF EDUCATION: ALEXAN BAGHDASARYAN TO BE ELECTED DEAN OF FACULTY OF PHILOSOPHY AND PSYCHOLOGY
The issue of electing the dean was at the agenda of the Academic Council of the Faculty of Philosophy and Psychology.
The Vice-Rector for Academic Affairs Menua Soghomonyan was present at the meeting.
The head of the Chair of Psychology Hrant Avanesyan was elected chairman of the meeting with one vote against and 28 votes for. He presented the only item of the agenda-election of dean.
The current dean of the Faculty Alexan Baghdaaryan greeted his colleagues and presented his vision of the faculty management and development. Expressing gratitude for confidence and nominating him Alexan Baghdasaryan noted that during discussions with the colleagues they came to the conclusion that the improvements are to be made by combining various methods. According to him, after adopting the Bologna System all educational systems seem to be adapted to it, whereas professions are different and approaches and standards for each of them are to be worked out, the standardized system can’t work properly in all cases.
“We must have multi-functional educational system”, said Alexan Baghdasaryan referring to current problems.
He outlined the social situation which doesn’t make it possible for university intellectuals for find time and enthusiasm for creation; the lecturers spend their resources on improving their social status. He offered to give lecturers a pay rise to improve the situation.
The next problem outlined by Mr. Baghdasaryan referred to electronic literature. Taking into account the professional peculiarities students have to read a lot of literature and it’s impossible to spend hours in front of the computer. The problem of corruption though controlled by many circles was also pointed out.
The problem of students’ attendance was also on the agenda, as many of them combine studies and work and the studies often remained on the second place so the quality of knowledge can be inappropriate as a result.
Mr. Baghdasaryan also stated that Master programs need reconsideration.
The Dean also pointed out the problem of PE lessons. He stressed the necessity of different sections which will be adapted for students with physical problems as well. He drew special attention to the students with disabilities.
Then those presents made their speeches and reports.
The head of the Chair of History , Theory of Philosophy and Logics Silva Petrosyan spoke about reconsideration of the assessment system, as previously the students get scores from being present at the lectures, but after the changes their attendance is very low.
Menua Soghomonyan asked what inter-disciplinary Master programs are possible in Philosophy and wanted to know what descriptions of professional qualities they have.
The candidate for Dean answered that the descriptions are determined by corresponding authorities, nut employers often pay attention not to the professional qualities but to human features.
The Associate Professor of the Chair of history, Theory of Philosophy and Logics Hovhannes Hovhannisyan noted that it is necessary to develop critical thinking and logics among students and to assist the dean. According to him, specialists’ participation in public life is highly important as well.
The head of the Chair of Personal Psychology Narine Khachatryan outlined that healthy working atmosphere of the faculty. She also referred to the problems of development national standards and research skills.
Hrant Avanesyan drew attention to the issue of internationalization of the faculty. He said that though the relationship at the faculty are friendly, more unity is needed.
After outlining a number of problems, Menua Shoghomonyan said that having a Faculty of Philosophy shows the maturity of a nation. He also referred to the possible ways of coordination of voluntary activities.
Expressing gratitude to the former Vice-Rector Alexander Grigoryan for the gigantic work done Mr. Soghomonyan spoke about the workload of students. According to him, if they want to develop research skills the workload is to be reconsidered which will be possible due to installation of the system of modules. He offered the candidate for dean to think about it.
After the speeches the accounting commission was elected with Silva Petrosyan to chair it and H.Hovhannisyan and D. Akelyan to be its members.
29 of 31 members were present at the meeting. 26 members voted secretly and as a result Alexan Baghdasaryan has been unanimously elected Dean of the Faculty.
