PRIOR TO 100TH ANNIVERSARY OF YSU THE UNIVERSITY HISTORY MUSEUM HAS BEEN ENRICHED WITH NEW SAMPLES

Prior to the 100th anniversary of the university the museum has been enriched with new materials related to its history (photos, personal items, valuable documents, memories of YSU lecturers, works of art, portraits of YSU devotees, books with dedicatory inscriptions). This information was given to ysu.am by the director of YSU museum Heghine Gasparyan.

Accordingly, the corner of the universitarians fallen in the Great Patriotic War was enriched with the photos of the head of the Military Chair of YSU in 1938-1939 Andranik Hjazaryan and the student of YSU Faculty of Physics and Mathematics Suren Sargsyan who were awarded with the title of the Soviet Union Hero, and the exhibition stall dedicated to the Artsakh battle was replenished with the names of 104 university people who took part in Artsakh liberation.

The exhibition stand highlighting the student life has been enriched with the photos of great Armenian writers Paruyr Sevak, Hovhannes Shiraz, Silva Kaputikyan, Khachik Dashtents, Vahagn Davtyan who were YSU alumni and with the photo of Yeghishe Charents who was a free listener of YSU in 1920.



The photos of the heroes of our days, students Gor Darmanyan, Shui Hakobyan, Gevorg Manukyan who proved in the Four-day April War that the Armenian spirit and strength are unbreakable, are also exhibited in the same corner.

The exposition stand dedicated to YSU lecturers who were repressed, accused, shot during the repressions of the 1930s was replenished with exclusive information from the RA national archive.

The museum was also replenished with such unique samples as minutes of the meetings of Yerevan University organizational commission of 1919, the first Regulations of YSU made up in 1919, numerous documents, books by Hr, Acharian, H. Navakatikyan, handwritten samples of Harutyun Anzhur lectures, manuscripts of G. Asatur and other handwritten manuals.

There is also “Psychology” textbook by the Professor of Harvard University, philosopher, psychologist William James (translated by YSU lecturer S. Tigranyan) which was the first book published by the university (Alexandropol, 1920). The visitors are particularly fascinated by the miniature model of 13th century Gladzor handwritten journal.

“Due to the efforts of A. Simonyan the museum’s collection of manuscripts has been enriched with the unique handwritten sample of the lectures delivered at Moscow University by the first Rector of YSU Yuri Ghambaryan in 1885-1886.

Besides, the museum exposition was replenished with 6 collages by artist Gevorg Yeghiazaryan dedicated to the Centennial of the Armenian Genocide.



A new exposition hall was opened at the museum as well. Various souvenirs, presented by the guests of YSU during different visits and many of which witness about the international cooperation ties of the university are displayed in this hall.
