LESSON OF STUDENTS OF FACULTY OF LAW AT ARMENIAN GENOCIDE MUSEUM-INSTITUTE
The lecturer of the Chair of European and International Law of the Faculty of Law Ani Simonyan delivered a lecture at the museum-institute of the Armenian Genocide.
The lecture was organized by due to joint efforts of the Chair of European and International Law and the Student Scientific Society of the Faculty.
The theme of the lecture was “International Legal Basis for Recognition, Condemnation and Punishment of the Armenian Genocide”. Its goal was to discuss the legal challenges for the Armenian Genocide recognition, bases for the international legal responsibility for it, as well as the strategic approaches for recognition and condemnation.
Accompanied by the lecturer the students visited the museum and familiarized themselves with the details of the history of the early 20th century.
The lecturer of the Chair of European and International Law Ani Simonyan noted that the discussion of legal issues is important as it gives the opportunity to hear our new opinions expressed by students and that the Armenian Genocide museum-institute is the best place for such discussions. The international legal acts in which the slaughters are fixed were discussed during the lecture.
Ani Simonyan presented Rafael Lemkin’s initiative which resulted in starting the Convention “On Genocide Prevention” in 1948.
“We have to understand what legal force the document has and if we can consider it applicable for the Armenian massacres of 1915-1923. We are going to try to analyze what strategy the RA should carry out so as we could finally get the answers to the questions we have as a state and as a nation”, said Ani Simonyan. She also stressed that genocide is the crime which can never be compensated from the point of view of morality.
After the lecture and discussion those present visited the memorial.
