ANNA ASTVATSATURYAN TURCOTTE DELIVERS A LECTURE IN YSU ON POGROMS OF ARMENIANS IN BAKU AND THE ISSUE OF COVERING THEM IN THE WORLD
Today the division of Genocide Studies of YSU IAS organized an open lecture on “Pogroms of Armenians in Baku and the issue of covering them in the world”.
The lecture was delivered by the American Armenian writer, human rights advocate and activist Anna Astvatsaturyan Turcotte, the author of the book entitled “Nowhere: a Story of and Exile”. The book is based on the memories she wrote in her diary when a child. In the book she tells how her family encountered massacres on the national grounds.
The head of the Genocide Studies division of IAS Suren Manukyan introduced the guest, told about their first meeting taken place at the presentation of Anna Astvatsaturyan Turcotte’s book.
Anna Astvatsaturyan Turcotte has a significant contribution to the recognition of the Nagorno-Karabakh Republic’s independence by the US state of Man in 2013.
She stressed that lots of efforts are put into covering of the massacres in Baku, Sumgait and Kirovabad in the world.
Madam Astvatsaturyan Turcotte is also engaged in a number of humanitarian programs.
She spoke about two programs currently implemented in Artsakh-the military units with the problem of water supply and medical supply in emergency situations.
