A NEW COURSE “MIGRATION AND JOURNALISM” TO BE STARTED AT FACULTY OF JOURNALISM
The teaching staff of the Faculty of Journalism of YSU was presented the program and goal of “Migration and Journalism” course.
The Dean of the Faculty of Journalism Naghash Martirosyan, the Project Manager of the “Support to Migration and Border Management in Armenia” (MIBMA) program Carl Hofstra, the lecturer of YSU, member of Public Council Gagik Yeganyan, representatives of the teaching staff and students were present at the event.
The “Migration and Journalism” course is to be included in the curriculum next academic year. It will be taught for one term, will have 16 lectures and 14 practical classes.
Mr. Gagik Yeganyan noted that “Migration and Journalism” course was worked out within the frames of MIBMA program.
According to him, the course will enhance students’ coordinated information about the bases of migration process management.
According to the MIBMA Project Manager Carl Hofstra, it’s very important that journalists should provide correct and trustworthy highlighting of migration problems. “I am sure that this course will enhance our future journalists to get new knowledge in highlighting the sphere”, he said.
The Dean of the Faculty Naghash Martirosyan said that the faculty always needs curriculum updating and installation of new programs as the sphere has a high mobility and the educational process is to keep up with media field reality.
The lecturer of the Faculty of Journalism, PhD in Philology Tatev Harutyunyan who is to teach the subject, presented the program and goals of the course.
The course is aimed at presenting students the migration processes, theories, statistics, tendencies, migration situation in the worls and Armenia, migration reflection in the media and influence on forming public opinion.
