CONFERENCE DEDICATED TO EMINENT STATESMAN OF IRAN IMAM KHOMEINI
The conference entitled “Analysis of Imam Khomeini’s ideas and opinions” was held by the Chair of Iranian Studies of the Faculty of Oriental Studies of YSU.
The cultural advisor to the Embassy of the Islamic Republic of Iran in Armenia Seyyed Mohammad Reza Heydari, the head of the division for Foreign Relations and Ceremonial of the Mother See of Holy Etchmiadzin Archbishop Nathan Hovhannisyan, the Dean of the Faculty of Oriental Studies Professor Ruben Melkonyan, the head of the Chair of Iranian Studies Vardan Voskanyan, lecturers, postgraduates and students were present at the conference.
Imam Khomeini was an outstanding political figure in the history of Iran, a poet, philosopher, eminent reformer of the religious rebirth, an intellectual, the leader of the Islamic Revolution.
The head of the Chair of Iranian Studies Vardan Voskanyan informed that taking into account the political, social and spiritual significance of Imam Khomeini for Iran, the Chair of Iranian Studies decided to refer to the history and modern political situation of our neighbouring super power.
As an exceptional centre of Iranian Studies in Armenia, the YSU Chair of Iranian Studies is watching the interior and exterior developments of this powerful and influential country as Armenian is not only a neighbouring but also a friendly country of the IRI.
The Dean of the Faculty of Oriental Studies Ruben Melkonyan noted in his greeting speech that it is an honour for the faculty to hold such a conference.
“YSU Chair of Iranian Studies is a bridge between Armenia and Iran, as the right and real image of our friendly neighbor is formed in this chair, here are brought up the students who will go on representing the relationship between the two nations”, said the Dean.
Archbishop Nathan Hovhannisyan and the cultural advisor of the IRI Embassy in Armenia Seyyed Mohammad Reza Heydari made their speeches as well. The latter referred to the important political role and legacy of Imam Khomeini.
The second part of the conference involved the reports made by the post-graduates of the chair who had studied the political views and activity of Imam Khomeini.
