HEAD OF GENOCIDE STUDIES DIVISION OF YSU IAS SUREN MANUKYAN REPRESENTS ARMENIA AT “ ADDRESSING ANTISEMITISM IN AND THROUGH EDUCATION” FORUM
The head of the division of Genocide Studies of YSU Institute of Armenian Studies Suren Manukyan was representing Armenia at the forum entitled “Addressing Antisemitism In and Through Education” which was held in Paris on July 10-11.
The representatives of 27 counties participated in “Addressing Antisemitism In and Through Education” forum. The aim of the event was to draw attention to antisemitism and to work out a policy to struggle against it through education.
During the two-day forum the participants familiarized themselves with the contemporary manifestations of antisemitism, and gained practical skills regarding how to be useful in prevention of violence, extremism and antisemitism through education.
According to Suren Manukyan those who made reports stressed that there are some actions the implementation of which in the sphere of education significantly decrease antisemitism and discrimination, hatred and intolerance. In any case the approaches based on human rights prevalence, mutual respect and inclusion stressing must be used.
He also stressed that it is necessary to develop critical thinking among students, their being resistant to stereotypes, theories of conspiracy and prejudices. Their skills for self-analysis, consideration of complicated issues. The inadmissibility of Holocaust denial also plays an important role in the struggle against antisemitism.
The participants of the form also visited the memorial-museum of Shoha (Holocaust museum).
