“IN ARGENTINA OUR NATION ARISES GREAT INTEREST”: AMBASSADOR OF ARMENIA TO ARGENTINA
YSU acting Rector Gegham Gevorgyan hosted the Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of the RA to the Republic of Argentina H.E. Estera Mkrtumyan.
The Vice-Rector for International Cooperation and Public Relations Arthur Israelyan and the Dean of the Faculty of European Languages and Communication Gevorg Barseghyan were present at the meeting.
Estera Mkrtumyan presented the opportunities of collaboration with the universities of Argentina and other accredited countries, particularly stressing the effectiveness of cooperation of the Institute of Balseiro and Institute of Physics.
According to the Ambassador, great attention is paid in the universities of Argentina not only to natural sciences but also to studies of languages and literature. It is known that Latin America has relatively young literature but there are many Nobel Prize laureates among Latin American writers.
Gegham Gevorgyan stressing the remoteness of these countries said that it is very important to outline an agenda for cooperation meetings so as to make future trips more effective.
Ambassador Estera Mkrtumyan said that she noticed that YSU and the universities of Uruguay can collaborate in the fields of Physics, Radoiphysics, Geology, Spanish Studies. She also referred to the necessity of having a unified approach in teaching Armenian as a foreign language both for Armenians living in Latin America and for students coming to Armenia by exchange programs.
The Vice-Rector for International Collaboration and Public Relations Arthur Israelyan presented the “Genocide Studies” Master program which arises much interest in Latin American countries as well. He informed that students from Iraq applied for the program as well.
Gegham Gevorgyan and Estera Mkrtumyan discussed the issue of introduction of new majors, particularly, religious tourism and gastro-tourism where specialists can be prepared.
Estera Mkrtumyan expressed willingness to assist in the development of collaboration between YSU and the universities of Latin America.
