“FACULTY OF CHEMISTRY: KEY TO SUCCESS” ALUMNUS OF THE FACULTY SEVAK GRIGORYAN TELLS HOW CHOICE OF PROFESSION HAS BECOME GUARANTEE OF SUCCESS

He presented the recent results of his research activity. The lecture was held due to joint initiative of the administration of the Faculty, the SC and SSS.

At the beginning of the lecture the Deputy Dean of the Faculty Armen Galstyan stated that the aim of the meeting is to familiarize the students with the possibilities and privileges the Faculty provides.

Sevak Grigoryan told the listeners that while entering the university he was hesitating in his choice of major. But discussing the issue with different specialists he selected the Faculty of Chemistry and has never regret choosing it.

He also told about his membership in student organizations such as Student Council and Student Scientific Society and stressed that active student life creates a fine environment for non-formal education. It gives the opportunity of communicating with teachers, making new friends, accumulating experience.

One of the most important periods of his student life started when the Faculty sent him to Rostock University, Germany for 6 months. After getting back from Germany Sevak Grigoryan started more serious research activity. By the recommendation of the Faculty he participated in various symposiums and conferences. After getting his Master’s degree he again had to choose between carrying on his studies in Germany or in the Netherlands. Everything was ready for going to Germany when he learnt that he had the chance to be involved in the research group led by our compatriot, Professor of Groningen University Syuzanna Harutyunyan. So he entered Groningen University. He informed that the University of Groningen was founded in 1616, it has 11 faculties,27 institutes and 175 programs.

Besides, it has 4 Nobel Prizes and 5 Spinoza Prizes.

Speaking about the research group he said that it consisted of 20 members and carried out research into various fields of chemistry. He informed that currently he is engaged in working out new enantiselective catalytic methods and presented the results of his activity, as well as answered the questions of those present.
