‘In Azerbaijan live more than 600.000 Tats’: Iranian researcher Majid Karimi
Majid Karimi is a PhD student of the Department of Iranian Studies at YSU Faculty of Oriental Studies.
His book tells us about the Tat people living within Azerbaijan. At first his work was just a study but over time he realized that he could do more in this field.
In his interview to us Majid Karimi tald about the most interesting facts of the study.
He informed, that հis work consists of introduction and 4 chapters.
The introduction of the book is about scientific explorations of Tat people up to now.
The first Chapter informs us about the history of the distribution of Tat people in the geographical area.
‘In the second chapter I have described the economic and social conditions in which the Tat people live in the Republic of Azerbaijan, I have presented the rural and urban life oft them’: said Majid Karimi.
According to him National Statistical Service of the Republic of Azerbaijan doesn’t express the right number of Tat population in the Republic of Azerbaijan.
‘According to my study in Azerbaijan live more than 600.000 Tats, but according to National Statistical Service of the Republic of Azerbaijan the number of Tat population is 25.000 ’: said Majid Karimi.
Majid Karimi informed, why there are differences between them.
‘There are many reasons for that, such as the standards of National Statistical Service of the Republic of Azerbaijan, other reasons are assimilation and discrimination of Tat population’: explained Majid Karimi.
He spoke also about Shia movements in Azerbaijan and about the connection between them and Tats.
