Center for Conflict Analysis
In 1996, with the joint efforts of Professor Lyudmila Harutyunyan of the Chair of Applied Sociology at YSU and Dr. Nancy Humphreys of the School of Social Work of the University of Connecticut (UConn - School of Social Work), the Center for Regional Integration and Conflict Resolution was established at YSU as a resource center. Dr. Murad Muradyan of the Institute for Conflict Analysis and Resolution (ICAR) of George Mason University, USA, also made a great contribution to the establishment of the center.
The Center supports the scientific activities aimed at the problems of regional studies, in particular the integration processes of the South Caucasus, the prevention and de-escalation of conflicts in the region, the issues of "no war, no peace society" and the possibilities of democratic transformations. One of the main goals of the Center is the development of professional capacity for conflict and peace research in Armenia. The Center conducts work to improve teaching, organizes conferences, and summer schools, and creates textbooks and educational materials. The implementation of all this has created an opportunity to develop and offer a new Master's degree program in conflict and peace studies, which has been successfully implemented in the Faculty of Sociology of YSU.
The Center for Regional Integration and Conflict Resolution, as a resource Center, has a rich library of Armenian and foreign language literature on conflictology, sociology, and social work, which is regularly replenished.
