On February 19, 2025, YSU Faculty of Biology hosted the expanded session of the Research Institute of Biology. The meeting was attended by Karen Trchounian, the Director of the Institute, Doctor of Biological Sciences, Professor, Karen Ghazaryan, the Dean of the Faculty of Biology, Doctor of Biological Sciences, as well as the heads and scientific staff of laboratories and research groups.

Professor Trchounian presented the large-scale scientific work being carried out at the Research Institute of Biology, including publications in internationally high-ranking journals. In 2024 alone, 111 papers were published in international scientific databases.
The speaker also discussed the newly acquired state-of-the-art equipment, as well as the upcoming acquisition of equipment worth approximately 1.1 billion AMD, along with expected reforms and future achievements.
The staff of the research institute are involved in several Armenian and international grant programs. On February 12, as a result of the "Scientific Effectiveness Promotion Grant Program – 2025" competition announced by the Higher Education and Science Committee of the Ministry of Education, Science, Culture and Sports of Armenia, 11 employees of the institute were among the guaranteed grantees. Financial support for such programs helps equip laboratories with the latest technology and necessary materials, enabling them to effectively address the scientific challenges they face. In total, more than 70 research grants are being carried out at the institute.
Karen Trchounian also spoke about the annual conference of the Research Institute of Biology, during which research works from various laboratories will be presented. The conference will be organized on March 27-28.
During the meeting, Dean Karen Ghazaryan also addressed the organizational matters of the "Biological Sciences and Environmental Solutions for the Achievement of Sustainable Development Goals" conference, which will be held from September 24-26, 2025. The conference is dedicated to the 90th anniversary of the Faculty of Biology and the 10th anniversary of the Research Institute of Biology. This conference will provide an excellent opportunity to establish new partnerships, expand professional networks, and cooperate with various international organizations.
