On May 6, 2024, at 2:30 p.m., in YSU Paleans Hall, renowned psychologist and genocide prevention researcher Ani Kalayjian will deliver a lecture on "Post-Traumatic Healing and Growth: Interdisciplinary Approaches." This event is organized at the initiative of the Institute of Armenian Studies.
Dr. Ani Kalayjian is a lecturer at Columbia University's Teachers College and John Jay College of Criminal Justice. She is also the founder of the Meaningfulworld organization. Dr. Kalayjian is a multicultural and multilingual psychotherapist, genocide prevention researcher, international humanitarian aid administrator, integrative healer, author, and UN representative. She is a member of the American Psychological Association, the Society for the Psychological Study of Social Issues (SPSSI), and the New York Academy of Medicine, as well as an ambassador for Psi Chi.
Dr. Kalayjian holds master's and doctoral degrees from Columbia University. She has received several prestigious awards, including the Outstanding Psychologist of the Year Award from the American Psychological Association (2016, Division of Trauma), the Humanitarian Award from the University of Missouri-Columbia (2014), and an Honorary Doctor of Science Degree from Long Island University (2001). In 2007, she was honored with Columbia University's Distinguished Alumnus of the Year Award.
Dr. Kalayjian has published over 100 articles in international journals and is the author of six books. Her notable works include Disaster & Mass Trauma, Forget Me Not: 7 Steps for Healing Our Body, Mind, Spirit, and Mother Earth (2018), and A Journey of Empowerment, Healing, and Transformation (2023). She is also the editor-in-chief of two volumes in the series Forgiveness & Reconciliation: Psychological Pathways to Conflict Transformation and Peace Building (Springer, 2010).
Hrant Avanesyan, Doctor of Psychological Sciences, Professor, and Head of the YSU General Psychology Chair and Experimental Psychology Research Laboratory, will also participate in the report-discussion; he is the author of 214 scientific works, including four monographs, fifteen educational manuals, and two inventions.
