Turnitin Similarity plagiarism detection program is now available on the e-learning platform at Yerevan State University, through which graduation papers and master's theses will be checked for originality. To clarify the details of using this tool, a training session was held in YSU Academic Council Session Hall, led by Artur Avagyan, the Executive Director of the Information Technologies Educational and Research Center.
Turnitin Similarity tool is designed to check the originality of academic works. It will be widely used in universities to verify graduation papers, master's theses, and scientific articles. The tool allows for the detection of potential cases of plagiarism by comparing the work with global databases and academic literature.

Addressing the importance of using the tool, Artur Avagyan noted: "The primary function of Turnitin Similarity is to ensure academic integrity by preventing the use of non-original materials. In universities, it is valued as a tool for control and evaluation, helping to improve the quality of academic works."
He emphasized that Turnitin reports show how much a particular work matches other written materials, highlighting the parts of the work that overlap with external sources. Based on this information, professors can determine whether the extent of similarity meets the university's established requirements. The "similarity score" represents the percentage of a written work that matches or is similar to materials found in the university’s databases or on the internet. Similarity does not necessarily mean that the work is plagiarized.

In evaluating a "similarity" report, professors should consider acceptable forms of similarity, such as citations, references, and bibliographies.
During the session, the key features of Turnitin Similarity were discussed, including the report generation process, similarity score, acceptable similarity threshold, tool menus, and functions.
Turnitin Similarity helps both professors and students evaluate the originality of works, thereby raising the quality of education.
