Chair of Culturology
The YSU Chair of Culturology was founded in 2007 at the Faculty of History of the University. The Chair is responsible for developing and delivering courses in cultural studies, as well as teaching the all-university subject "Culturology".
The professors of the department carry out research activities in the fields of culturology, cultural anthropology, and cultural heritage.
In the course of its activity, the Chair jointly with the RA NAS carried out archaeological research in Tigranakert, Artsakh, as well as with the University of Florence conducted "Silk Road. "Armenia" program, as a result of which, starting from 2018, within the framework of the "Erasmus+" program, students of the Department of cultural studies, who specialize in the directions of cultural history and cultural heritage, are allowed to study at the University of Florence (Italy). Those directions are related to the "Silk Road Armenia. Vayots Dzor" research topic implemented within the framework of the project.
Since 2009, the Chair of Culturology has been organizing an annual cultural student conference entitled "Culture, History and Modernity", where senior and Master's students of the Chair give presentations. Both professors of the Chair and invited experts usually participate in the discussion of the reports.
On the initiative of the Chair, the "Monitoring of Artsakh Monuments" program was created, which is the largest academic platform for researching and presenting Artsakh's cultural heritage online. Since 2018, the chair has also implemented the "Collection of cross-stones. The Republic of Armenia, the Republic of Artsakh" research project. Apart from that, the Chair, within the framework of cooperation with the Ministry of Education, Science, Culture and Sports of the Republic of Armenia, has carried out large-scale archaeological research in Artsakh and developed a concept of Artsakh's cultural policy.
Thanks to the wide cooperative relations and the financial support of the partners, the chair allocates annual scholarships to high-achieving and socially disadvantaged students. Individual scholarships are provided to students with the highest progress and showing scientific and social activity.
