The YSU Faculty of Sociology and the Armed Forces of the Republic of Armenia, through the initiative and expertise of specialists from the Applied Sociology and Social Work Chairs, have consistently collaborated to enhance the army's image and build trust in its institutions, as well as address and resolve the social issues faced by servicemen.
The Faculty of Sociology, in collaboration with the Department of Social Protection of the Ministry of Defense of Armenia, hosted specialists from the Support Center for Servicemen and Their Families of the Kansas Army National Guard. Representing the Faculty of Sociology were Yuliana Melkumyan, Head of the Chair of Social Work and Social Technologies; Associate Professor Nune Geghamyan; PhD student Tatevik Karapetyan; and Artur Atanesyan, Head of the Chair of Applied Sociology.
During the meeting, discussions revolved around the Armenian experience in social work and support for servicemen and their families, both before and after the 2020 Artsakh war. The conversation also covered American approaches to financial, economic, social, and informational support for armed forces and servicemen. The participants agreed to undertake joint research and publications and to continue sharing best practices.
