9. Additional information about the programme
The Bachelor's educational program with the specialty "Sociology" was the first in Armenia to be introduced at YSU. Initially, it was implemented within the Faculty of Philosophy and Sociology (in 1991, Sociology separated from Philosophy and became an independent department, based on which the Faculty of Sociology was created in 2004 and operates today). The Bachelor's educational program is distinguished both by the diversity and innovation of the taught subjects, as well as by the high professionalism of the teaching staff. Within the framework of the Bachelor of Sociology educational program taught at the Faculty of Sociology of YSU, students have the opportunity to acquire knowledge following world standards in the basics of sociology, the history of sociology, the development of Armenian sociological thought, social statistics, social anthropology, social psychology, and other related fields. The program pays particular attention to quantitative and qualitative methods of sociological research, sampling, and measurement theories, as well as perspectives on the development of sociological methodology.
Specialists of YSU Sociology Faculty were trained and received academic degrees at leading universities and centers in the USA (Tufts University Fletcher School of International Law and Diplomacy, Arizona State University, the University of California, Berkeley Center for Slavic, East European, and Eurasian Studies) and Europe (Oxford University). The cooperation of the YSU Sociology Faculty with a number of international universities, as well as educational and research institutions greatly contributed to the implementation of the program.
