On May 18-19, the Legal Clinic of the YSU Faculty of Law in cooperation with the Armenian office of the Raoul Wallenberg Institute organized the Spring School of Clinical Legal Education.
The goal of the school was to promote clinical legal education in local universities, raise awareness of its importance, expand inter-clinic cooperation opportunities at Armenian universities, and facilitate the dissemination of information about Armenian universities’ legal clinics among international partners.
Representatives of the staff and students of Armenian state and non-state universities’ law clinics attended the school, during which the participants exchanged insights into their clinic's activities and ideas for further cooperation.
Lectures on "Clinical Legal Education and Its Significance in Foreign Universities", "Legislative Regulation of Legal Education, Financing, Cooperation with Public Bodies", "Best Practice of Involvement of Psychologists and Social Workers in Clinical Activities at Foreign Universities", "Ethics and Integrity of Legal Consultations", "Documentation, Database Management", "Cyber Security and Personal Data Protection" and other important topics were delivered, as well as in-depth discussions and interactive question-and-answer sessions we held.
International experts from foreign universities with extensive experience and reputation in clinical education, along with representatives of foreign legal clinics and their unions' management staff delivered remote lectures.
K. Vardanyan, Director of the YSU Legal Clinic, presented the best experience of legal clinics across Armenian universities. She spoke about the formation history of legal clinics in the Republic of Armenia, the main directions of the YSU Legal Clinic’s activity, the programs it offers, and the cooperation opportunities with other clinics.
At the end of the school, the director of the YSU Law Clinic extended gratitude to the colleagues of the Armenian office of the Raoul Wallenberg Institute for their positive response to the initiative of organizing the school. She expressed appreciation for their assistance and hoped for the continuity of such collaborative initiatives, aiming to broaden the horizons and enhance cooperation among legal clinics throughout Armenia.
Hanna Johnsson, Director of the Armenian office of the Raoul Wallenberg Institute, in turn, highly appreciated the participation of the clinics in the two-day school and expressed hope that the knowledge and information gained during the school will be useful in the development and establishment of Armenian clinics.
Arman Gasparyan, Program Coordinator of the Armenian office of the Raoul Wallenberg Institute, extended appreciation to the employees of the YSU Law Clinic for their collaborative efforts in organizing the school and reaffirmed their readiness to support similar initiatives within their capacity.
