1. Admission criteria/requirements
The admission is carried out in accordance with the regulations for admission to full-time master's programs at Yerevan State University, approved by the Academic Council of Yerevan State University in decision No. 9/2, dated May 26, 2022.
2. Programme Objectives
The program aims to familiarize students with the principles and foundations of international law, provide in-depth and comprehensive knowledge of international courts and arbitral proceedings, and teach students how to analyze issues and questions related to the theory and practice of international law. Additionally, it seeks to present the role, activities, and characteristics of various international legal dispute resolution bodies, clarify the different stages of international legal dispute resolution, interpret the general and distinctive features of domestic and international law, assess the role of domestic law in resolving international legal disputes, as well as develop written and oral argumentation skills.
3. Educational outcomes of the programme
Upon completion of the course, the student will be able to:
- • Identify issues and questions related to the theory and practice of international law.
- • Present the role, activities, and characteristics of various international legal dispute resolution bodies.
- • Plan the various stages of international legal dispute resolution, from negotiations to the recognition and enforcement of final judgments.
- • Interpret the general and distinctive features of domestic and international law, and assess the role of domestic law in resolving international legal disputes.
- • Apply the main strategic approaches to written and oral argumentation within the framework of international legal advocacy.
- • Compile procedural documents in the prescribed format (claims, responses to claims, motions, objections, etc.).
- • Effectively present and defend the client's interests based on oral argumentation skills acquired through the program.
- • Conduct legal research and studies using modern research tools.
- • Apply contemporary methods of legal research.
- • Participate in procedural processes within the framework of international legal disputes.
- • Effectively apply the appropriate tools and strategic approaches for conducting negotiations
- • Develop critical and analytical thinking.
- • Enhance the ability to navigate the situation, find strategic and relevant solutions to situations.
- • Plan time effectively and allocate necessary resources efficiently, both individually and in group settings.
- • Improve written and oral professional language skills, including proficiency in foreign languages.
4. Assessment methods
· Courses without Final Examination: Within each academic module, the mandatory components for student assessment are: 2 ongoing tests, scored between 7-9 points, which may be conducted either in written or oral form. The instructor selects at least two additional components from the following options: ongoing check, scored between 0-8 points; individual work, scored between 0-8 points; participation, scored between 0-3 points.
· Courses with Final Examination: Within each academic module, the mandatory components for student assessment are: 2 ongoing tests, scored between 6-8 points, and a final examination, scored between 7-9 points. The instructor selects at least one additional component from the following options: ongoing check, scored between 0-6 points; individual work, scored between 0-6 points; participation, scored between 0-3 points.
· Courses Ending Without Ongoing Examination: Within each academic module, the mandatory component for student assessment is the final examination, scored between 7-9 points. The instructor selects at least two additional components from the following options: ongoing check, scored between 0-8 points; individual work, scored between 0-8 points; participation, scored between 0-3 points.
