A two-day scientific and educational conference launched at YSU
On June 13-14, YSU and the Russian – Armenian University will host a two-day Armenian-Russian scientific-educational conference on "Integration of Science, Education, and Production as the Driving Force of Economy Modernization", which aims to develop and strengthen the scientific-educational connection between Armenian and Russian universities.
Within the framework of the conference, around 200 delegates from the leading universities and scientific institutions of the two countries participate in plenary discussions, and meetings with different topics, make presentations and outline the ways to expand the scientific and educational connections between the universities of Armenia and Russia.
During the opening ceremony of the conference, YSU rector Hovhannes Hovhannisyan, referring to the importance of the event, the new perspectives of cooperation between the universities of the two countries, and the indicated reforms in the field of science and education, noted, "Today the international cooperation between universities includes new fields, new ways of solving the issues of the sector are developed and improved while keeping our priorities and basic principles. At the same time, today there is an urge to strengthen international cooperation through the joint development and implementation of research projects and educational programs, which should be applied through the expansion of academic mobility and the development of education quality management systems.
Continuing the speech, H. Hovhannisyan particularly emphasized the strengthening of cooperation with partner educational institutions, including Russian universities, in the context of quality assurance, attractiveness, and competitiveness of higher education for YSU.
Welcoming the initiative of the officials and specialists in ensuring the quality of education and development of the scientific and educational potential of both countries, Zhanna Andreasyan, the Minister of Education, Science, Culture, and Sport of the Republic of Armenia, noted, "We are glad to have the opportunity to discuss the prospects of cooperation and the issues in the field once again. I hope that during these two days, we will outline new cooperation programs. Contemporary challenges around the world further emphasize the issues of education and science, as they are often also considered the main driving force of economic modernization: Armenian-Russian relations in the field of science and education continue to develop, recording new achievements."
Deputy Minister of Science and Higher Education of the Russian Federation, Konstantin Mogilevsky, expressed hope that the forum will give a new start to new cooperative ties between Armenia and Russia.
"The Armenian word for "friendship" (բարեկամություն) completely reflects the mutual connection and cooperation between our countries. Let me thank everyone who contributed to the organization of this conference. I am sure that we will have a fruitful dialogue: discussing the issues of implementation of joint programs in the field of education and science, including student exchange programs, and the implementation of scientific research programs. "Many representatives of 34 higher education institutions and 21 scientific centers are here to discuss joint projects and ensure the continuity of cooperation with our Armenian partners," emphasized Konstantin Mogilevsky.
President of the Union of Rectors of Russia, Rector of Moscow State University named after M. V. Lomonosov, academician of the Russian Academy of Sciences Viktor Sadovnichi spoke about the significance of scientific and educational joint works carried out within the framework of Armenian-Russian cooperation and future projects.
"At the end of last month, we had a meeting with the Rector of YSU and discussed the possibilities of expanding the scope of cooperation between our universities. Today, we are happy to sign a bilateral memorandum at YSU and we will gladly accept all proposals aimed at the development of education and science," said V. A. Sadovnichi and added, "The next Armenian-Russian scientific and educational conference will be held in M. V. Lomonosov Moscow State University".
Within the framework of the conference, a bilateral negotiation was also organized between the rectors of different universities of Armenia and Russia, during which they discussed the possibilities of expanding cooperative ties, as well as a meeting of the Council of Young Scientists of the National Academies of Sciences of both the Republic of Armenia and the Russian Federation was held.
At the end of the first day of the conference, cooperation documents were signed between RA and RF universities, in particular, a memorandum was signed between Yerevan State University and Moscow State University after M. V. Lomonosov, which recorded the reforms and plans in the field of higher education between the two countries.
Today, plenary and session meetings are being held on "Priority areas of cooperation in the field of science", "Education as a factor of stable cooperation between Russia and Armenia", "Development of the secondary vocational education system, "New opportunities for bilateral cooperation", "Innovative cooperation as a factor of economic modernization", "Creation of favorable conditions for the study of the Armenian language in the territory of the Russian Federation and the study of the Russian language in the territory of the Republic of Armenia", "Vectors of scientific cooperation between Russia and Armenia, based on the experience of the Russian Science Information Center and RA Science Committee".
It should be noted that the Armenian-Russian forum is a part of the activities planned by the Russian Union of Rectors aimed at the development of international cooperation in the field of education and science. Since 2000, under the auspices of the Russian Union of Rectors, more than 80 conferences have been held with the participation of more than 6,000 rectors of Russian and foreign universities.
