Practical application of the results of scientific studies - a landmark goal
Varduhi Margaryan, Associate Professor of the Department of Physical Geography and Hydro-meteorology of the Faculty of Geography and Geology of the Yerevan State University, is the author of about 250 scientific articles, several dozen of which have been published in internationally ranked scientific journals.
In her scientific articles, V. Margaryan mainly refers to the study of surface waters of the Republic of Armenia, raises problems and offers solutions, emphasizing the need to bring the results of scientific studies to the practical field.
"Until 2017, I mainly presented my scientific articles at conferences organized in foreign countries (Tajikistan, Spain, France, Italy, Russia). Since 2017, I have also been publishing my scientific articles in internationally recognized scientific journals. I also publish articles in co-authorship with famous Russian scientists. I have already published articles with a Q2 rating, and now I am working on publishing an article with a Q1 rating," said Varduhi Margaryan.
The Associate Professor's articles with a Q2 rating have been published in internationally ranked scientific journals such as "Sustainable Development of Mountain Areas", "Arid Ecosystems" and "Ice and Snow", as well as in the bulletin of Moscow State University, in the journals of Kharkiv State University and Russian State Hydrometeorological University. In those articles, V. Margaryan presented the hydro-ecological consequences of climate change in the water regime of spring floods in the upstream of the Arpa River, assessment of the spatiotemporal changes of the minimum ten-day winter flow of the rivers of the Lake Sevan basin under the conditions of modern climate change, the ice regime of the rivers of the Debed basin, as well as the spatiotemporal changes in the characteristics of heat waves in the last three decades.
The Associate Professor of the Chair of Physical Geography and Hydro-meteorology plans to address the minimum costs of the rivers flowing into Lake Sevan and their ecological consequences in her next scientific article. Speaking about the scarcity of freshwater, she emphasized that it is a global problem. Referring to the reasons for the blooming of Lake Sevan, the Associate Professor mentioned, "There are no treatment plants in the rivers flowing into Lake Sevan, which contributes to the blooming of Lake Sevan. There is a problem of freshwater in the world. The main sources of freshwater are rivers, lakes and swamps. The majority of scientists raise the problem of the scarcity of freshwater, the consequences of which, according to the scientists, may be alarming."
In this context, V. Margaryan emphasized that under the conditions of current water consumption, Armenia's water resources are sufficient for domestic needs, but, according to some expert assessments, by 2050 Armenia's water resources will decrease by 20-25% due to climate change and decreased rainfall.
The Associate Professor's scientific articles are also published on the YSU website and are available to both researchers and students. V. Margaryan emphasized that her scientific articles have practical significance in many fields․ In particular, local self-government bodies may draw up their community development plans based on the facts contained in those articles.
It should be noted that in order to promote scientific research activities at YSU, the existing mechanisms are regularly reviewed and improved, including for publishing scientific articles in internationally ranked scientific journals and high-impact magazines.
