YSU Scientists’ Research in High-Impact Scientific Periodicals
YSU researchers and scientists publish scientific articles in leading international periodicals, promoting the development of various branches of science with their research. In 2023, YSU researchers published 1494 scientific articles, 243 of which were indexed in authoritative international journals included in the "Scopus" database.
Erik Davtyan is one of the YSU researchers whose articles are published in international high-ranking scientific periodicals. Assistant of the YSU Chair of International Relations and Diplomacy, Candidate of Historical Sciences, E. Davtyan's article titled "Being a Small Club in a Big Club: Highlighting the Role of Armenia in the Eurasian Economic Union" was published in the scientific journal "South-Eastern European and Black Sea Studies", one of the periodicals with Q1 rating. The research refers to the policy of Armenia in the Eurasian Economic Union.
Speaking about the content of the article, E. Davtyan mentioned: "Armenia used the EAEU's institutional features to transfer the issues that were previously discussed in the Armenian-Russian intergovernmental format to the EAEU platform. In the article, I presented the topic in detail, highlighting specific examples and problems."
The author, referring to the censoring process of the article, informed that he worked on the article for about 9 months. He started writing it when he was invited to the University of Zurich as a researcher and finished it after returning to YSU.
The assistant of the Chair of International Relations and Diplomacy has another scientific article published in "Caucasian Studies" journal with Q1 rating. The article titled "Ability to Act and Perceptions of Smallness. Understanding Georgia's Foreign Policy Behavior" presents Georgia's foreign policy approaches in different periods. In the article, he studied how different leaders of Georgia perceived Georgia as a small state. Erik Davtyan emphasized that the research led to the conclusion that there were politicians in Georgia who were more sceptical about having a pretentious foreign policy, so they were in favor of having a more compromising political behavior, and some had the opposite opinion. "Based on the ideas of the ruling elite about the capabilities of their own state, foreign political behavior has changed from compromising to conflicting political behavior."
In one of his scientific articles, Erik Davtyan also referred to the Nagorno Karabakh conflict, in particular, the cause-and-effect relationship between the international community response and Azerbaijan's decision to start the war. This research titled "Lessons That Lead to War. Learning in Foreign Policy and Military Escalation in Nagorno-Karabakh Conflict" was published in March 2023 in "Problems of Post-Communism" journal with Q2 rating.
The main finding of the author's research implies that until 2020, the response of the international actors with influence in the South Caucasus was not enough to prevent the escalations, which led to a full-scale war in 2020.
Currently, he is co-authoring a study on the transformation of the security architecture of the South Caucasus after the 2020 Artsakh war. "Russia, Turkey and the West have always been considered influential actors in the South Caucasus. We are studying how the balance of power between them has changed after the 2020 war, and how it affects the South Caucasus," said Erik Davtyan. The scientific article on the changes taking place in the South Caucasus after the war is currently in the recension phase.
Erik Davtyan, referring to the above-mentioned internationally known journals, emphasized that scientists from different countries, valuing the publications of these journals, also search for materials in similar journals to follow scientific innovations.
It should be noted that since 2023 the YSU community has had access to such international and intra-university digital platforms as "Scopus", "Research4Life", "EBSCO", "MathSciNet" international databases, as well as other authoritative electronic resources. Temporary access to "Brill", "JSTOR", "World Scientific" databases has also been obtained.
