YSU and "Lydian Armenia" sign memorandum of intent
Today YSU Rector Hovhannes Hovhannisyan and Executive Director of "Lydian Armenia" company Hayk Aloyan signed a memorandum of intent to unite their efforts for establishing high-quality specialists, implementing joint scientific-research studies and other educational programs in the fields of geology, mining industry, mining exploitation, mining and metallurgy, hydrogeology, etc.
Within the framework of the memorandum, the parties will design employee qualification improvement programs, implement experimental, scientific, research and educational works, organize joint discussions of separate departments, consultation, training courses, courses for qualification improvement and other measures.
In addition, technological methods will be developed as a result of the joint studies of the YSU Geography and Geology Faculty and the experts of the Sustainable Development Center operating in the faculty and the company's specialists, and laboratory and production tests for developing such methods will be organized.
Courses and practical fieldwork will be organized with joint efforts to increase the effectiveness of accumulating practical knowledge about mining industry activities among the students of the Faculty of Geography and Geology. Besides, students will have the opportunity to organize their educational and production practices, as well as experience (internships, mentorships) in the company.
YSU Rector Hovhannes Hovhannisyan stated that the fields for the development of which the cooperation is established, are significant for our country, therefore ensuring high-quality education and establishing skilled personnel, singling out the issues and solutions to them must be the priority. "One of the guarantees of ensuring quality education in accordance with current requirements and standards is the effective connection with labour market."
Executive Director of "Lydian Armenia" company Hayk Aloyan noted that they are willing to invest their resources and support the development of the faculty, implementation of research projects related to geology and mining industry and other programs. He also said the company planned to set up scholarships for high-achieving students, as well as for those applicants from the surrounding communities of Amulsar who would choose geology as a profession.
Sargis Kelyan, Dean of the YSU Faculty of Geography and Geology, speaking about programs on developing the faculty, emphasized the importance of the necessity for effective use of scientific potential, training of lecturers and increasing the interest among applicants in the profession, and expressed hope that cooperation will contribute to the implementation of all the plans.
The parties discussed the further actions defined by the memorandum and the opportunities for expanding the cooperation.
