YSU students pursuing the profession of geology awarded monetary prizes
YSU Geography and Geology Faculty students Hrach Karyan and Marine Bangoyan received monetary awards in recognition of the authors of the best graduation work and master's thesis.
Following an agreement between the YSU Faculty of Geography and Geology and partner Lydian Armenia CJSC, after the defense of graduation work and master's thesis, the committee selected the best works. The Petros Aloyan Foundation awarded 1,500 euros each to the authors of the two selected works.
The awarding aims to encourage students pursuing the profession of geology to acquire deep professional knowledge and apply it in practice.
Sargis Kelyan, Dean of YSU Faculty of Geography and Geology, highlighting the importance of the cooperative relations with Lydian Armenia CJSC, noted that from the outset, discussions with the company focused on creating a new platform to showcase the faculty's scientific potential.
"This support is crucial as it inspires students to perform and present their best scientific work. In this regard, I highly value the company's support. The faculty is ready to implement new ideas with the company," emphasized S. Kelyan.
Hayk Aloyan, Executive Director of Lydian Armenia CJSC and Founder of Petros Aloyan Foundation, pointed out the role of the geologist profession in Armenia, saying: "The profession of a geologist is very important and in demand in our country, besides, good geologists can find a highly paid job. If students not only major in geology but also have a strong command of English, they will have excellent opportunities for highly-paid jobs in other countries as well."
This year's awardee, Marine Bangoyan, a second-year student in the "Geophysics, Hydrogeology, and Engineering Geology" master's program at the Faculty of Geography and Geology, while presenting the topic of her thesis, noted that it refers to conducting an engineering geological investigation for the construction of new criminal-executive institutions in the areas of Vardashen and Erebuni Criminal-Executive Institutions.
"Now a lot of new buildings and structures are being constructed in Yerevan, and I became curious about the engineering-geological conditions guiding these constructions. After completing my study, I came to the conclusion that construction in the given areas is prohibited due to their unfavorable engineering-geological conditions," said Marine.
The graduation work of Hrach Karyan, a student in the "Geology" bachelor's program at the YSU Faculty of Geography and Geology, was recognized as the best among the works presented by undergraduate students. His work involved analyzing the geophysical findings conducted in the vicinity of Agarak and Yeghvard archaeological monuments.
The certification commissions responsible for organizing the defense of graduation works and master's theses of the specialty "Geology" and related educational programs were chaired by Hayk Aloyan, Executive Director of Lydian Armenia CJSC and Founder of Petros Aloyan Foundation. The commission included the dean of the YSU Faculty of Geography and Geology, faculty members, representatives of NORGEO LLC and the Institute of Geological Sciences of NAS RA.
