19th International Conference on Symmetry Methods in Physics held at YSU
Yerevan State University is hosting the 19th International Conference on Symmetry Methods in Physics (SYMPHYS-XIX), dedicated to the memory of theoretical physicist Alexei Sissakian. This conference aims to bring together scientists who knew Professor Alexei Sissakian personally and worked with him, as well as to provide young specialists with the opportunity to interact with and establish cooperative relations with prominent scholars of the field.
The conference, scheduled for September 8-13, is organized by the YSU International Center for Advanced Studies and is dedicated to the memory of Professor Alexei Sissakian. Professor Sissakian made significant contributions to the study of nuclear, elementary particle physics, high energy physics, and research of various aspects of symmetries in physics.
At the 19th International Conference on Symmetry Methods in Physics, scientists from around the world gather to discuss the latest advancements in symmetry methods and related topics. These include infinite-dimensional symmetries and supersymmetries, integrable and superintegrable systems, symmetries of differential and difference equations, quantum optics, coherent states, Wigner distribution function, high energy physics, multiparticle dynamics, and mathematical methods. Conference participants present their research, and the findings will be published as scientific articles following collaborative efforts.
Welcoming the conference participants, Rafayel Barkhudaryan, the Vice-Rector for Scientific Affairs at YSU, presented episodes from the lives and activities of Alexei Sissakian and the late Georgi Poghosyan, Doctor of Physical-Mathematical Sciences, the former Director of the YSU International Center for Advanced Studies named after A. Sissakian. He mentioned that G․ Poghosyan initiated the series of international conferences on symmetry, mathematics and physics, providing Armenian scientists with a platform to collaborate with foreign colleagues and publish articles in high-ranking journals. The vice-rector also emphasized the significant contributions of these physicists to the advancement of the field and the progress of science.
Professor Anahit Balabekyan, Acting Director of YSU International Center for Advanced Studies, Head of Nuclear Physics Chair at YSU Institute of Physics, one of the conference organizers, emphasized the importance of symmetry in physics, noting that many laws are derived from symmetry.
"We have been organizing this conference since 1993 with the aim of bringing together scientists working in this field. Over the years, many renowned scientists have visited Armenia, leading to the creation and strengthening of numerous collaborative connections," she said. She also noted that many young scientists who previously participated in these conferences are now working at leading scientific institutions.
During the conference, participants present their reports both online and offline.
Elena Kolganova, a leading researcher from the Joint Institute for Nuclear Research (Dubna) and one of the conference organizers, spoke about the long-standing cooperation with YSU, the Yerevan Physics Institute (A.I. Alikhanyan National Science Laboratory), and Armenian scientists in general. She noted that this conference is highly beneficial for maintaining and strengthening these collaborative ties.
"In the framework of the conference, mathematicians and physicists present their theories, discuss recent achievements in their fields, and address common topics of interest. It is good that both physicists and mathematicians are present, as many mathematical models discussed here are later used to explain various physical phenomena," stressed E. Kolganova.
Held every two years, this conference is not only a fruitful platform, but also an environment conducive to the generation of new ideas.
Professor Aram Saharyan, Head of the Chair of Theoretical Physics named after Academician Gurgen Sahakyan, who will also be presenting at the conference, said that his work focuses on the effects of gravitational fields on quantum phenomena.
"Symmetry methods are used in nearly all areas of physics. Symmetry plays a crucial role in modern physics, ranging from elementary particle physics to cosmology. Conferences like this provide scientists with the opportunity to publicize their scientific works and studies. They are also vital for training young specialists, and it is no coincidence that this conference is held at YSU, a leading university in Armenia," stated A. Saharyan.
This year, around 60 scientists from Mexico, France, Russia, Poland, Bulgaria, and other countries have arrived in Armenia to participate in the 19th International Conference. They are engaging in discussions on various issues related to the field and exchanging expertise.
