YSU participates in Science Week Festival
From October 1 to 6, the Science Week Festival took place in Freedom Square, with Yerevan State University actively participating. Faculty members and representatives from the Physics and Pharmacy Institutes, Biology and Chemistry Faculties, STEM High School, and the Marketing Department shared insights on the importance of science and innovations in the field.
The festival aimed to showcase achievements in the fields of science and technology, highlighting their vital role and importance in today's world.
The Science Festival was divided into three thematic parts: "Science is Everywhere" (October 1-2), "Professional Orientation: Future Scientists" (October 3-4), and "Science Fiction: Imagine!" (October 5-6). In the "Professional Orientation: Future Scientists" thematic part, the university students presented various studies being conducted at YSU, shared insights into the features and advantages of pursuing scientific work, provided details on admission to the STEM High School, giving the festival participants an opportunity to get acquainted with the university life.
Rafayel Barkhudaryan, Vice-Rector for Scientific Affairs at YSU, emphasized the importance of organizing similar events. Referring to the university's participation in the Science Festival, he stated: "The primary goal of this festival is to foster interest in science among pupils, students, and a wider range of society by showcasing scientific research and development trends across various branches of science in Armenia. YSU consistently values participation in such events aimed at promoting science."
Fascinating experiments, quizzes, and scientific interpretations made the Science Week Festival an excellent platform to present YSU’s innovations, new development programs, university reforms, and learning opportunities in a modern environment. It highlighted the advantages of international collaborations and guided festival participants in connecting their professional development with YSU while raising awareness of ongoing reforms at the university.
At the YSU booth, university students interacted with schoolchildren, students, and science enthusiasts for two days, answering a variety of questions.
Gagik Avetisyan, an 8th-grade student from School №51 named after Vardges Petrosyan in Yerevan, expressed a keen interest in physics. He listened attentively to the scientific discussions led by YSU professors and students, as well as to information about the opportunities offered by technology.
"I really like physics because it covers many important and fascinating topics. At the university’s booth, the discussions on light, radiation, reflection, pressure, and several other topics caught my interest," he said.
Gagik added that this is not his first experience at a scientific event. He noted that he always participates in similar events with great enthusiasm, gaining valuable new knowledge. Although Gagik has not yet decided on a specific profession, he is very interested in the educational programs offered by Yerevan State University.
Anna Hakobyan, a student from Basic School №17 named after Vrezh Hambardzumyan in Yerevan, shared that upon noticing the YSU booth, she approached without hesitation due to her interest in the university and her goal of enrolling at Yerevan State University in the future.
"Today, I received a wealth of important information about the admissions process and studying at YSU. I learned about the YSU STEM High School and explored several other topics that may interest many young people," Anna said, reflecting on her impressions.
The Science Week Festival was held at the initiative of the Gituzh program, with the support of the RA Ministry of Education, Science, Culture and Sports, in cooperation with the National Academy of Sciences. The event took place in Yerevan and throughout the provinces of the Republic of Armenia, bringing together many individuals interested in science.
