Event dedicated to World Mental Health Day held at YSU
The YSU Faculty of Philosophy and Psychology hosted an event dedicated to World Mental Health Day. This gathering aimed to emphasize the importance of mental health and provide practical steps for maintaining it through engaging in psychological activities.
The core message of the event was an important principle from the World Health Organization (WHO): mental health is a basic human right for all people.
Professor Hrant Avanesyan, Head of the General Psychology Chair at YSU and Doctor of Psychological Sciences, noted, "Maintaining mental health is the guarantee of a person's stable and active life. Modern psychology pays great attention to the training and education of specialists, trying to ensure a person's mental health across all areas: education, work, family, and more."
The event was organized in an interactive format, with more than eight booths showcasing various applied approaches to mental health care, such as art therapy, fairy-tale therapy, and music therapy. According to PhD and Associate Professor Hrachya Hovhannisyan, ensuring unity among specialists in the field, fostering international cooperation, and continually advancing the theoretical and practical knowledge of practitioners are essential.
The Armenian branch of Psi Chi International Honor Society in Psychology, operating at the faculty, highlighted not only the importance of maintaining mental health but also the standards and guidelines set by the World Health Organization. This presentation involved significant participation from the students of the faculty.
With the support of the student council, awareness videos were prepared, in which each member of the faculty's teaching staff addressed the public, emphasizing the importance of maintaining mental health.
The interactive nature of the event encouraged active participation in the various psychological activities organized for attendees.
The event aimed at raising awareness of mental health was attended by not only students from the faculty but also guests from other faculties and universities, the National Academy of Sciences of the Republic of Armenia, the Public Administration Academy of the Republic of Armenia, and the Professional NGO of the Union of Armenian Psychologists, among others.
The event was organized through the initiative of the General Psychology Chair, with support from Psi Chi YSU Armenia, student councils from various faculties, and volunteers.
