Introducing new educational tools in YSU's learning management platform
The IT Educational and Research Center has introduced educational tools for teaching technology-related subjects in computer science and engineering into the "e-learning" platform for YSU's learning management system. These tools are especially useful for courses that involve programming tasks and tests as part of the learning process.
The challenges present in the teaching process have led to the introduction of new educational tools. In particular, programming assignments and tests for technology-related subjects in computer science and engineering pose significant obstacles for both students and instructors, requiring extensive work and constant monitoring.
YSU Information Technologies Educational and Research Center (ITERC) offers to solve or mitigate a number of challenges through digital technologies, making the learning process more dynamic, creative and aligned with modern requirements.
Artur Avagyan, Executive Director of ITERC, emphasized the need for new educational tools, highlighting that online platforms offer automated, fast, standardized, and objective assessments. They also foster collaboration between students, ensure quick updates, support individualized approaches, provide analytical feedback, and offer numerous other advantages.
Attaching importance to the hybrid learning system, he stated, "Hybrid learning can significantly enhance the use of digital tools by combining the advantages of both physical and online learning. In particular, the use of tools like "Workshop", "CodeRunner", and "VPL" of the "Moodle LMS" can transform the organization of teaching and learning processes. These tools offer a more flexible, efficient, and individualized approach, making the learning process more interesting and effective for students."
These tools are effectively used in the current examinations at ITERC. For instance, the exams for the first semester of the 2024-2025 academic year were conducted using automated testing by the Faculties of Informatics and Applied Mathematics, Mathematics and Mechanics, and International Relations.
Anna Malkhasyan, a lecturer at the Chair of Information Systems at ITERC, shared her thoughts on the recent exam for the "Cloud Computing" course. She stated, 'The system is very comprehensive and flexible, offering a wide range of options for defining the questionnaire, with clear explanations in Armenian."
Sandukht Hakobyan, a master's student at the same center, expressed her satisfaction with the newly introduced system, saying, "I am excited about the new test system being implemented at our university. This approach offers a more efficient and streamlined way to assess our knowledge, making exams less stressful and more focused on learning. I am confident it will provide a fairer and more consistent evaluation process for students. I am very happy that our university is taking such progressive steps for students."
The use of new tools in the educational process management platform greatly enhances the organization of the learning process, offering a more flexible and comfortable environment, particularly in large auditoriums with many students.
