Strengthening of scientific-educational ties between Armenia and Greece at issue
YSU recently hosted Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of Greece Christos Sofianopoulos for a discussion on programs aimed at advancing educational and research fields, as well as other matters of mutual interest. The ambassador also attended the photo exhibition "Between Two Homelands", which aims to promote the development of Armenian-Greek relations.
The YSU rector presented to Christos Sofianopoulos, the Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of the Republic of Greece to Armenia, various programs focused on advancing education and research, as well as on enhancing the university's internationalization process. He highlighted YSU's ongoing collaboration with Greek universities and expressed the university's readiness to further expand cooperation with Greek educational institutions.
Hovhannes Hovhannisyan informed that the Research Center of Greek Studies at YSU is operating successfully, offering courses in modern Greek and conducting research, thereby contributing to strengthening the cultural ties between Armenia and Greece. The rector also added that YSU cooperates with Aristotle University of Thessaloniki through the JASON program, which provides YSU students with opportunities to participate in one-month and eight-month courses focused on Greek language and culture.
During the meeting, the parties discussed ideas and ways to expand cooperation and create new opportunities in areas of mutual interest.
The ambassador met with the teaching staff and students of the YSU Faculty of International Relations, where he delivered a lecture. He discussed the 30-year history of diplomatic and neighborly relations between Armenia and Greece, highlighting cooperation in cultural, educational, and other fields. The ambassador also addressed Greece's foreign policy stance, and a discussion revolved around the latest geopolitical developments.
Following the lecture, Christos Sofianopoulos attended the exhibition "Between Two Homelands," which showcases the stories of Armenians in Greece during the Second World War. The exhibition was organized in cooperation with YSU Center of Greek Studies and the Embassy of Greece in Armenia. The EU Ambassador to Armenia, Vassilis Maragos, also attended the exhibition.
The exhibition will be open until November 24.
