YSU Student Scientific Society summarizes 1st semester of 2024-2025 academic year
An extended session of the Student Scientific Society (SSS) for the first semester of the 2024-2025 academic year was held in YSU Academic Council Session Hall. During the session, the society's achievements were presented, and active members of the SSS were awarded certificates of honor.
In her summary of the first semester of the 2024-2025 academic year, SSS Chair Siranush Baghumyan stated: "Currently, the Student Scientific Society has 405 members, including bachelor’s and master’s students, as well as PhD candidates."
Speaking about the importance of international conferences, the SSS chair highlighted that over 700 events were organized during the 2023-2024 academic year, including international conferences, workshops, and moot courts.
"We organized the 9th International Conference of YSU SSS in 2023-2024, dedicated to the 105th anniversary of the First Republic of Armenia. Over 200 participants attended, 120 of whom successfully passed professional review. In the 2024-2025 academic year, we hosted the 10th International Scientific Conference of YSU SSS, dedicated to the 105th anniversary of YSU. This conference set a new record for the number of applications, with 316 submissions, and 215 of them passed the professional review," Siranush Baghumyan pointed out.
She emphasized that these two international conferences had a total of 335 participants, including students from various universities in Armenia and abroad. Additionally, several inter-university events, workshops, and conferences were organized at YSU faculties.
Regarding the "Article Writing School" program launched in May 2024, which aims to develop students' skills in scientific writing, the SSS chairperson noted that the program will become an annual offering.
"Currently, we are in negotiations with Stavropol State University (Russia) to provide YSU students with the opportunity to study and participate in international forums held there to further develop their professional skills. Discussions are also ongoing with the University of the Republic (Udelar) in Uruguay to establish collaborative ties," she added.
The session also emphasized the importance of volunteer work by SSS members. At the end of the session, active members were awarded certificates of honor and recognition. Those recognized for their excellent activities in the first semester of the 2024-2025 academic year included Albert Sahakyan, Milena Mkhitaryan, Mari Gasparyan, Anna Grigoryan, Eliza Hovhannisyan, Gerasim Zeynalyan, Vaghinak Badalyan, Angelina Harutyunyan, Haykuhi Melkonyan, Kristine Safaryan, Aren Kirakosyan, Mariam Papikyan, Narine Gevorgyan, Emma Sahakyan, Eva Yenokyan, Aghvan Vardanyan, and Armine Svyatevskaya.
Certificates of honor were awarded to Rima Gevorgyan, Head of the Media Committee at the Faculty of Biology; Vahram Ghazaryan, a member of the Media Committee at the Faculty of Philosophy and Psychology; Astghik Harutyunyan, Vahan Tsaturyan, and Rita Hovikyan, Heads of the Translation Committee; Arsen Zakaryan, Julieta Guloyan, Heads of the General Committee; along with faculty SSS Secretaries Maria Levonyan and Rozi Margaryan.
In recognition of their excellent contributions, the Student Scientific Societies at the Faculties of Philosophy and Psychology, Geography and Geology, Law, and the Physics Institute were awarded for their outstanding work in the first semester of the 2024-2025 academic year. Similarly, the Student Scientific Societies at the Faculties of Sociology, Biology, and Chemistry were awarded certificates of recognition for their active involvement.
Certificates were also awarded to SSS Vice Chair Davit Sargsyan, Secretary Maria Melkonyan, as well as Marine Margaryan for her excellent coordination of the Translation Committee’s activities, Marine Mkrtchyan for her outstanding coordination of the Media Committee and the development of a well-structured website, and Karen Ghazaryan for his excellent coordination of the General Committee’s work.
