Seminars held as part of YSU-MIT collaboration
As part of a joint project between Yerevan State University and the Massachusetts Institute of Technology (MIT), Daniel Odenthal, a representative from MIT, is leading a series of seminars at YSU Information Technology Educational and Research Center.
As part of a project implemented through the collaboration of the two universities, YSU students have the opportunity to engage in prototyping and digital modeling during a month-long series of seminars.
Daniel Odenthal shared detailed information about the project.
Opportunities Offered by the Seminars
The project consists of nine seminars, during which students engage in the design process through a combination of lectures and practical work. Each seminar covers a specific phase of the design process, from identifying real-world problems to developing solutions and prototyping. For example, throughout the seminars, students learn the basics of 3D modeling, including how to use the software and prepare their models for 3D printing. They then bring their ideas to life by creating prototypes, gaining a deeper understanding of how the project works in practice. Students work in small groups. The seminar series will conclude with a final exhibition, where the groups will present their design outcomes. The skills acquired during the seminars enhance their technical expertise and help them tackle future project challenges with a creative approach.
YSU Students' Professional Preparedness and Education Quality
From my experience working with students, I can say that they are highly skilled, eager to learn, and appreciate the teaching methods I’ve applied during the seminars. I am particularly impressed by their creative approach and problem-solving abilities. They possess the capability to think critically and view problems from different perspectives. Both the students and the YSU staff are very welcoming.
Suggestions for Enhancing YSU’s Educational Methods
I believe that incorporating more practical exercises could significantly enhance the learning experience for YSU students. Such activities would allow students to more actively apply the theoretical knowledge gained during lectures to real-world work processes.
Highlights of My Visit to Armenia
I’ve been fortunate enough to explore some of Armenia’s notable sights. One unforgettable trip was to Dilijan, where I was captivated by the stunning mountainous landscapes and peaceful hiking trails, offering the perfect escape from the hustle and bustle of the city. I also visited several monasteries, which provided me with a general understanding of the country’s rich history and cultural heritage. However, what impressed me the most was the warmth and hospitality of the Armenian people, who are incredibly generous in sharing their culture and traditions. My time in Armenia, filled with conversations, exploring local cuisine, and visiting historical sites, has been both spiritually enriching and inspiring.
