Integrating natural sciences with art: Breaking stereotypes
At YSU Charles Aznavour Cultural Center, a performance of Hovhannes Tumanyan’s poem "Anush" was staged with the participation of students from YSU STEM High School. The students from the natural sciences stream, who are typically interested in mathematics, physics, chemistry, and biology, showed their talents in art this time, combining their passion and knowledge of both the arts and natural sciences.

The initiative was brought to life through the efforts of Lilit Grigoryan, a literature teacher at YSU STEM High School, with organizational support from Lilit Amiryan.

"It is inspiring to see that the students of YSU STEM High School demonstrate their knowledge and skills not only in education and research but also in the realm of the arts. The performance of 'Anush' reflects their creative potential, dedication, and multitalented nature. I would like to express my gratitude to everyone who contributed to the realization of this beautiful initiative," said YSU Rector Hovhannes Hovhannisyan in his welcome speech.
The staging of the "Anush" poem took place as part of a literature class, but the students' involvement and dedication turned the event into a full-fledged theatrical performance.

"The students are breaking the stereotype that those in the natural sciences and mathematics focus solely on their specialized subjects. Last year, they also explored Paruyr Sevak’s literary heritage, presenting the poet as a citizen, scholar, and poet," noted Aram Khachatryan, Director of the STEM High School.
Great attention was also given to the visual aspect of the performance. The Armenian National Academic Theatre of Opera and Ballet named after Alexander Spendiaryan assisted with the costumes, ensuring the performance's style was in line with the historical setting of the work.
"We tried to present 'Anush' as it would be staged in a professional theatre. All the students were involved in the event—acting, organizing, and engaging in the other creative tasks," said Lilit Amiryan.

The performance also featured dance and musical parts, which enhanced the expressive and emotional impact of the work. The students not only brought the characters to life on stage but also delved into the psychological worlds of the heroes, effectively conveying the emotional and sensory depth of the poem to the audience.
Such cultural initiatives, by integrating the complementary functions of art and science, aim to contribute to the development of well-rounded individuals.
