COMBINING EDUCATION AND FAMILY. A STUDENT OF THE FACULTY OF SOCIOLOGY OF YSU NARRATES
Our last interlocutor in the series of interviews dedicated to Women's Month is Kristine Hakobyan, a student of the YSU Sociology Faculty. We talked with her about the advantages of getting an education at the university, the important role of social workers in society, plans and other topics.
- Kristine, how did you decide to continue your education at the university as an adult? What prompted the choice of profession?
- Learning, developing and doing self-education have always been and remain primary for me. However, the idea of studying at a university, specifically at Yerevan State University, was a requirement for me for a long time. Wanting to fill that gap and seeing YSU's activities, I chose the profession of social worker, which is close to my heart. In order to support and help people who are in a difficult life situation, I entered YSU Sociology Faculty.
- Is there a great demand for social workers in the labor market? What is their role in society?
- The role of social workers in the society is multifaceted: protecting interests, informing, guiding, mediator between the beneficiary and different systems, etc. It is appropriate to quote the slogan of the Association of Social Workers in Armenia: "Social work is the art of competently helping people." Therefore, there is a demand for professionals in health care, education, justice and other fields, contrary to the popular stereotype that social workers are involved only in the field of social security.
- You are a mother of three children and you best combine education and family. What do you think are the advantages of going to university as an adult?
- One of the big advantages is that in adulthood, when your children are already independent, you are not restricted in attending classes, in contrast to the cases when students have young children. Apart from this, the difficulties of the educational process seem, in my opinion, to be easily overcome and less alarming.
-They say, "I measure the progress of society by the progress of women." How important is the role of education in this context?
- Education is one of the main factors that increases the self-esteem of an individual, making him self-sufficient and self-confident. It is no coincidence that women today have a great involvement and a significant role in various spheres of life, so I am sure that the main guarantee of this progress is education itself.
- Will you look at your plans for the future?
- It is interesting that my answer to the previous question awakened a new idea in me. I sincerely hope that I will be able to create such a group, the purpose of which will be to inspire others by the example of successful women to get an education or continue their education and carry out activities for the benefit of society.
