"NATURAL GROWTH DYNAMICS OF THE RA POPULATION. HISTORICAL TRENDS AND CURRENT CHALLENGES ". SEMINAR-DISCUSSION AT YSU
YSU Academic Council Session Hall today hosted "Natural Growth Dynamics of the RA Population. Seminar-Discussion on Historical Trends and Current Challenges.
The seminar-discussion was organized by YSU SSS.
The seminar was conducted by YSU Deputy Dean of History, Candidate of Historical Sciences, Associate Professor Michael Malkhasyan and Sociologist Armen Khachikyan.
Michael Malkhasyan spoke about the dynamics of population growth in Armenia and the “psychological” thresholds of different years, the overall birth and death rates, the critical transition of natural population growth, the comparisons between the age groups of the neighboring states, etc.
Referring to the crisis of natural growth of the population of Armenia, the speaker mentioned some worrying facts: "The number of men is decreasing with women, the number of marriages is decreasing and divorces are increasing instead".
After the publication of statistical data and the analysis of existing problems Michael Malkhasyan emphasized the need to develop a national program, which involves complex study and modeling of factors affecting natural growth, preparation of a national report or concept of demographic development.
Armen Khachikyan spoke about the structural change in the perceptions of the family in Armenia at different times, which influenced the change of population and birth rate.
