"ARTIFICIAL INTELLIGENCE BRINGS FORWARD THE 4TH TECHNOLOGICAL REVOLUTION". GUEST LECTURER OLEG GABRIELIAN
Within the framework of the internal grant program, the Dean of the Faculty of Philosophy of V.I. Vernadsky University of Crimea, Professor Oleg Gabrielyan is at YSU.
In this academic semester, the guest speaker is lecturing on the subject "Thinking Technologies" for 3rd-year students, graduate students, and faculty members of the Philosophy Department of the Faculty of Philosophy and Psychology of YSU.
Along with the curriculum, the faculty also organizes theoretical seminars with the professor. The next lecture was titled "Consciousness and artificial intelligence", during which Oleg Gabrielyan presented a comparative analysis between these two phenomena, emphasizing their connection, relationships, and features, and addressing other targeted issues related to the topic.
Artificial intelligence, penetrating various fields and influencing the cultures and economies of the whole world, affects geopolitical processes, and according to Gabrielyan brings forward "change of human civilization" – the 4th technological revolution. It reflects the creation and advancement of modern technologies that contribute to breakthrough innovations and inventions in various fields. Artificial intelligence technologies are aimed at simplifying human life, from household issues to global ones.
Referring to artificial intelligence competing with human consciousness, Oleg Gabrielyan emphasized, "Artificial intelligence is a serious and complex mechanism created by man. Although it develops relatively independently with its algorithm and becomes a serious challenge for humanity, I am strongly convinced that it cannot replace human consciousness. In my opinion, man should seek to actively 'cooperate with artificial intelligence', empowering it as his assistant."
For the guest speaker, this cooperation is important not only for the transfer of knowledge and experience, but also for getting to know the current situation of the field of philosophy in Armenia more deeply, and for strengthening the connection between the Diaspora and Armenia.
Referring to the strengthening of this cooperation, Oleg Gabrielyan mentioned. "I have the plan to establish a summer school attached to the Holy Cross Church of Crimea, which will give an opportunity to invite participants from Armenia and Artsakh. I hope that my visit to Armenia and communication with my colleagues will contribute to the realization of these ideas."
Hovhannes Hovhannisyan, associate professor of YSU Faculty of Philosophy and Psychology, head of the internal grant program, welcoming the university management's initiative to promote the development of international relations through internal grant programs, noted: "This cooperation provides an opportunity to get acquainted with the views and ideas of an internationally renowned expert, and also the exchange of thoughts and experiences, the dialogue of scientists, which is a vital necessity for the existence and development of science."
Karina Gevorgyan, a master's degree student at YSU Faculty of Philosophy and Psychology, continuously participates in Oleg Gabrielyan's lectures.
"The lecturers of the faculty taught us that philosophy is an extremely practical science, Oleg Gabrielyan added that a philosopher should be able to change the social environment, which is possible only by noticing and pointing out the positive. It is important, especially in our time," emphasized Gevorgyan.
It should be noted that the Faculty of Philosophy and Psychology of YSU, emphasizing the relevance of the topic, plans to introduce a course entitled "Consciousness and Artificial Intelligence" into the master's education program of the faculty.
It is noteworthy that Oleg Gabrielyan is at YSU thanks to the YSU internal grant program "Development of components of logic, argumentation, and eloquence in university educational programs". He defended his doctoral thesis at YSU in 1992.
