PROFESSOR OF THE UNIVERSITY OF BELARUS V. DEMIDCHIK IS AT YSU.
Dean of the Faculty of Biology of the State University of Belarus, Corresponding Member of the National Academy of Sciences of Belarus, Ph.D., Professor Vadim Demidchik presented a report on "Elucidation of the primary stress response of the plant cell at the level of the plasma membrane: redox-dependent mechanisms" at the Faculty of Biology of YSU.
Associate Professor of the Department of Biochemistry, Microbiology, and Biotechnology of Yerevan State University, Ph.D. Lilit Gabrielyan and Professor Vadim Demidchik of Belarus State University are collaborating within the framework of the research project "Investigation and optimization of growth characteristics and H2 production activity of Belarusian and Armenian strains of Chlorellaceae microalgae through physiological and biochemical analysis, digital phenotyping and cell selection".
The professor arrived in Armenia to carry out joint research works, exchange experiences, and hold discussions.
A lecture was organized within the framework of V. Demidchik's short-term visit to Yerevan State University, during which the scientist presented to YSU students the activities of the Faculty of Biology of Belarus State University, undergraduate, master’s educational programs, and scientific directions. During the meeting, a number of issues related to exchange programs between Yerevan and Belarus state universities were also discussed.
V. Demidchik, referring to the scientific research activities carried out in the faculty, simultaneously presented his professional interests, studies, and scope of scientific interests.
Emphasizing the importance of cooperation with YSU and the significant role of the university in the development of science in general, the speaker noted, "In my opinion, the Faculty of Biology of YSU is in a leading position in a number of aspects, for example, the methods of studying hydrogen are extremely well developed. We have a lot to learn from each other."
Lilit Gabrielyan, talking to us about the above-mentioned grant program, explained that it is dedicated to the study of biohydrogen production in green algae strains isolated from mineral springs and different water basins in Armenia and Belarus, as well as to the phenotyping of individual cells through the appropriate computer program.
"Such research is being conducted for the first time in both Armenia and Belarus. This direction is quite promising because biohydrogen tends to replace natural gas: it is ecologically clean and does not pollute the environment," emphasized L. Gabrielyan.
The students present at the lecture assured that thanks to such interactions, the professors and students of the two universities would develop their professional skills and expand the range of scientific interests.
