STEPS TOWARDS THE INTERNATIONAL CONVENTION IN YSU
A discussion of the Aarhus Convention's standards of access to justice in environmental issues took place at the Faculty of Law of YSU.
The purpose of the organized event was to discuss with representatives of various ministries, the judicial system, legal experts, and representatives of non-governmental organizations the obstacles to the implementation of the Aarhus Convention, the right to access to justice on environmental issues in the Republic of Armenia, the shortcomings and advantages of the process.
The results of the discussion are important for completing the questionnaire on measures of access to justice in environmental matters, submitted by the European Economic Commission to the countries that are members of the Aarhus Convention (including Armenia).
Speaking about the importance of such meetings, the head of the YSU A. Iskoyan Environmental Law Research Center, Olympia Geghamyan, said that when a country ratifies an international convention, it assumes certain obligations, and on the way to their implementation, such discussions are of utmost importance in order to draw up such a document, which will comprehensively and fully present the position of RA society and state bodies.
The discussion was organized by YSU A. Iskoyan Law Research Center in cooperation with the RA Ministry of Environment.
