YSU STUDENT COUNCIL EXPANDS THE FRAMEWORK OF COOPERATION. UNIVERSITY CHAMPIONSHIP OF SC DEBATE CLUB LAUNCHED

The friendly game, judged by a professional panel of faculty members, was intended to familiarize the debating teams with the university's championship format.

The main goals of the university championship are to create a platform for students of YSU and other universities to raise self-education and agenda issues and to strengthen inter-university ties.

Davit Apoyan, President of the YSU Student Council, referred to the creation of the debate club. Speaking about the importance of debating skills, D. Apoyan emphasized, "The debate is one of the unique institutions that was and remains relevant at any stage of history. The debate club on campus was formed in 2013, creating an opportunity for students to have and develop their own beliefs, as well as to fight for them with specific ideas. I sincerely hope that this debate championship will form new beliefs among students."

Anna Darbinyan, the president of the debate club, spoke to us about the opportunities provided by the debate club. According to her, the fact that YSU SC hosts the championship teams organizes, and holds a tournament already speaks of the university's high reputation and initiative.

"The interest and participation of students from other universities are no less important, thanks to which, I think, an exchange of experience will be achieved, and the championship will be considered a success in that sense as well. Apart from that, debating always develops personal abilities and skills, which, I can confidently say, the championship will contribute to," said the president of the debating club.

It is noteworthy that representative and collective teams from almost all Yerevan universities applied to participate in the championship, but only the top twelve passed the ranking stage.

In the conversation with us, the representatives of the "Fausto" team referred to their participation in the championship. According to them, it allows them to expand connections with representatives of other universities and acquire new debating skills.

Ani Hakobyan, a student of the Faculty of Journalism of YSU, and representative of the team testified that this is a good opportunity to understand the way of thinking of students of different universities in Armenia, as well as to form new cooperative ties.

Another member of the team, a student of the American University in Armenia, Van Hambardzumyan, told us, "Being familiar with the educational system of Armenia, I have to admit that compared to the student institutions of RA universities, the YSU SC has no equal. With my participation, I would like to get to know the SC activities better and apply that experience at the university where I study."

According to another member of the team, Mark Petrosyan, a student of the French University in Armenia, the championship will contribute to the expansion of their horizons, as well as create an opportunity to discuss topics that have not yet become the subject of discussion.
