SCHOOLCHILDREN GAIN NEW KNOWLEDGE ABOUT BIOLOGY
The pupils of the 7th grade of Yerevan D. Varuzhan primary school N 89 made a study visit to the Faculty of Biology of YSU to develop their understanding of the features and characteristics of living organisms, as well as to expand their knowledge about the role and significance of living organisms in nature, and in human life.
During the visit, organized by the head of the Chair of Human and Animal Physiology, Associate Professor Anna Karapetyan, the pupils toured various laboratories of the Chairs of Zoology, Botany and Mycology, Biochemistry, Microbiology, and Biotechnology.
Associate Professors of the Chair of Botany and Mycology Astghik Poghosyan, Narine Zakaryan and senior laboratory assistant Ruzanna Matevosyan talked to the pupils and biology teacher Nazeli Arzumanyan about the biological features of the most important representatives of lower plants and fungi and their practical significance. Students studied the structural features of different cells of bacteria, animals, plants, and fungi using a microscope.
Astghik Ghazaryan, associate professor of the Chair of Zoology, gave a detailed presentation of different representatives of invertebrate and vertebrate animals, talking about their prevalence and significance in human life.
Armine Margaryan, associate professor of the Chair of Biochemistry, Microbiology and Biotechnology, presented the structural and functional features of microbes, as well as the simplest methods of microbiological research.
"I think the pupils got a lot of satisfaction from this visit. This was our first visit to YSU Faculty of Biology, and it was very interesting for them. I am sure that our visits will be periodic, which is also very important from the point of view of pupils’ professional orientation," said Nazeli Arzumanyan.
Pupil Alexandra Karapetyan, speaking about her impressions, said: "My interest in biology increased after studying the work done in different chairs of the Faculty of Biology. I have always loved biology, and after this visit, I loved it even more.
It should be noted that such visits are often organized at YSU in order to give pupils professional orientation and to arouse love and interest in science.
