THIS YEAR IS ALL ABOUT CHARENTS. YSU STUDENTS READ RUSSIAN TRANSLATIONS OF THE POET’S WORKS
YSU faculty of Russian philology held an event entitled "Yeghishe Charents in translations of Russian poets" dedicated to the 125th anniversary of the great writer.
During the event, the students of the Faculty of Russian Philology read the works of Charents in Armenian and in Russian translation, performed the song based on the poem "Yes im anoush Hayastani...".
According to Liana Matevosyan, initiator of the event, professor of the Faculty of Russian Philology of YSU, Ph.D., the main goal of this event is to acquaint students with the life of the great writer, in particular, the Russian translations of his works, the authors of which are Anna Akhmatova, Mikhail Dudin, Boris Pasternak, and others. According to Matevosyan, the participation of students in such events is very important, because they have the opportunity to study famous Armenian writers in a completely new light.
The invited guest of the event was Gohar Charents, granddaughter of the poet, senior researcher of Yeghishe Charents House-Museum. She mentioned in the conversation with us, "Everyone loves Charents, and I am very happy that students read his works, and such events help popularize the poet. This year, it seems that everyone remembered him again and revalued his works."
Speaking about the Russian translations of Charents' works, G. Charents emphasized that it is quite difficult to convey the same idea in another language with the same word elegance, but it can be safely said that the Russian translations are quite successful.
It is noteworthy that during the event, a Chinese student of the faculty recited one of Charents' poems with Russian and Chinese translations, which he translated himself.
At the end of the event, students had the opportunity to ask their questions to Gohar Charents.
Let us remind that recently the second session of the republican scientific conference dedicated to the 125th anniversary of Yeghishe Charents was held at YSU.
